The Philippines also emphasized the importance of greater efficiency and effectiveness in the UN, particularly in the Fifth Committee’s working methods. Representing the Philippines, Deputy Permanent Representative Ariel R. Peñaranda stated that the Philippines looks forward to the timely issuance of all documentation in all six official languages documents as well as for the modality of simultaneous interpretation during informal consultations “to ensure the Committee’s timely consideration of the Secretary-General’s proposals.”

On the proposed programme budget for 2022, DPR Peñaranda underscored the importance of “ensuring that proposals are in line with existing intergovernmental mandates, with emphasis on equitable geographic representation and in enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities.”

The Philippines also called on all Member States to reinvigorate UN Special Political Missions in addressing peace and security challenges by improving its existing financing arrangements.
