Philippines  Re-Elected as Member of the UNESCO Executive Board

PARIS, 19 November 2021 – The Philippines was re-elected as one of the 58-member United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board for the term 2021-2025 during the ongoing 41st UNESCO General Conference today.

The successful Philippine bid was supported by 165 UNESCO Member States who voted for it during the General Conference.

For this term, the Philippines shall continue its efforts to: address the growing digital divide especially in the developing and least developing countries; develop open science in the wake of climate change and natural disasters; develop synergies and cooperation between UNESCO cultural conventions; support the work of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, particularly ocean science, ocean-climate nexus, and biodiversity; strengthen the Information for All Program (IFAP) including reaping the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI); support UNESCO global priorities on Africa, gender equality, Small Island Developing States, youth, and indigenous peoples; and, promote inclusive and effective governance in the Organization.
