28 May 2014- Philippine Consul General in Los Angeles Leo Herrera-Lim paid a courtesy call on District 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell at the latter’s office on May 14.

The two officials discussed opportunities to bridge the gap between the first- and second- generation Filipino-Americans and how to encourage the second group to take on a more active role in the community.

Consul General Herrera-Lim encouraged Councilmember O’Farrell to visit the Philippines with a delegation from City Hall to revitalize sister-city relations between Los Angeles and Makati.

District 13 has an estimated 25,000 Filipino-Americans and on February 20, 2014, Councilmember O’Farrell spearheaded a project unveiling the Gateway Marker to Historic Filipinotown.  Historic Filipinotown is under District 13 of the city of Los Angeles, California, making up the southwest portion of Echo Park.  It was created by a resolution proposed by Mayor Eric Garcetti when he was then city councilmember on August 2, 2002.
