PH Embassy Organizes First Kain Tayo! Let’s Eat!’ Cuisine Workshop in Cairo

CAIRO 01 December 2021 — In line with the Department of Foreign Affairs’ goal to intensify promotion of economic and cultural activities abroad, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Chefs Association (ECA), organized the first edition of “Kain Tayo! Let’s Eat!” A Philippine Cuisine Workshop on 28 November 2021 at the Kitchen Stars in Maadi, Cairo.

Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago welcomed the participating chefs and cited some similarities between Filipino and Egyptian dishes, while expressing hope to see more Egyptians getting interested in Filipino cuisine. In response, Mr. Ashraf Gamal, ECA Managing Director, said that the ECA looks forward to further cooperation with the Embassy and envisions similar workshops in the future.

Chef Edison C. dela Cruz, an Egypt-based Filipino chef demonstrated how to cook some of the well-loved Filipino dishes including lumpiang Pinoy, adobo, seafood sinigang, and yema. The workshop also featured Filipino food products and condiments such as banana ketchup, sugar cane vinegar, soy sauce, flavored condensed milk (buko pandan, mango, and ube flavors), and sinigang mix.

The Embassy and the ECA partnered to reach the target audience for the workshop, which included hobby chefs, food importers, students, and restaurant managers of major hotels in Cairo. END
