NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon intervenes during the virtual Extraordinary Session of the MOST Intergovernmental Council (IGC) 

PARIS, 09 December 2021 – Following the recent election of the Philippines as member of the Intergovernmental Council on the Management of Social Transformations (MOST IGC) Programme of UNESCO, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon, joined the discussions on the draft Comprehensive Strategy for the MOST Programme, 2022-2029. The draft Strategy was discussed during the virtual Extraordinary Session of the MOST Intergovernmental Council (IGC) from 30 November to 01 December 2021.

As the Philippines’ official representative to the MOST IGC, Undersecretary Edillon conveyed the Philippines’ strong support on the draft Strategy, particularly its four priority areas, including: inequality and exclusion; environmental change and society; governance; and digital transformations and societal disruption, with particular attention to the UNESCO recommendations on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Open Science, which respond accurately to the present challenges confronting the world today.

To move forward and effective implement of the Strategy, Undersecretary Edillon emphasized the need to: maximize the use of resources and platforms to effectively communicate and implement MOST programme; develop new methodologies of subjecting previous research findings to the new conditions and the evolving environment; continue collecting statistics; continue to generate and manage knowledge; and explore ways of integrating UNESCO recommendations in the IGC’s work towards enhancing the institutional setup of utilizing evidence generated by different perspectives in the development of a more responsive and resilient policies.
