PH Delegation Bags 9 Medals in Asian Youth Paralympic Games

MANAMA, 09 December 2021 – The Philippine Embassy celebrates the success of the Philippine delegation in the recently concluded 4th Asian Youth Paralympic Games (AYPG) 2021 held from 02 to 06 December 2021 in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Philippines was represented by 20 athletes who played in the following sports: basketball, badminton, table tennis, bocce, and swimming. Team Philippines wrapped up the competition with a tally of one gold, six silver, and two bronze medals. Below is the list of the medals won by the Philippine Paralympic athletes in different categories:

GOLD

  1. Ariel Joseph M. Alegarbes – Swimming; 100m Butterfly (S14)

SILVER

  1. Ariel Joseph M. Alegarbes – Swimming; 100m  Breaststroke (S14)
  2. Daniel F. Enderes – Athletics; Men’s 1500m T20 (U20)
  3. Ronn Russel Mitra – Athletics; Men’s 400m T20 (U20)
  4. Linard C. Sultan – Table Tennis; Men’s Single Class 8; Men’s Mixed Team with Singapore and Kuwait

BRONZE

  1. Angel Mae C. Otom – Swimming; 100m Butterfly (S1-10 Multi Class)
  2. Mary Eloise L. Sable – Table Tennis; Women’s Mixed Team with Malaysia

The Games were held under the “bubble system” to ensure the health and safety of all the athletes. During the closing ceremony, Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed announced that there were zero cases of COVID during the entire games for all the delegations.

Despite limitations, officials of the Philippine Embassy, together with some members of the Filipino Community, were able to provide support and cheered for the delegation during the competition, after compliance with health protocols including undergoing antigen testing. END
