PH, UAE eyeing trade and investment agreements to boost economic ties

ABU DHABI, 20 December 2021 – Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hjayceelyn M. Quintana expressed confidence in the future prospects for Philippines-UAE trade ties with the recent visit to the country of Philippine Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, providing significant impetus to help the Embassy's efforts to boost economic ties with the UAE.
Secretary Lopez was in Dubai from 05 to 11 December 2021 upon the invitation of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the Global Business Forum ASEAN organized by the Chamber. Sec. Lopez was a high-level panelist at the Forum.
During the visit, the Embassy arranged the meetings between Sec. Lopez and his UAE Ministerial counterparts on 08 December 2021, with Ambassador Quintana accompanying him in said high-level exchanges at the sidelines of the GBF held at the Dubai Exhibition Center at the World Expo.
During the bilateral meetings with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, and Minister of State responsible for economic and trade affairs in the UAE Foreign Ministry, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Secretary Lopez and the two UAE Ministers expressed mutual commitment to work towards strengthening economic and trade ties between the two countries, by finalizing bilateral arrangements such as the Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, discussing a possible bilateral economic partnership agreement, as well as strengthening linkages between the business sectors of the two countries.
Amb. Quintana said that the gains from this visit, a month after the successful meeting between Foreign Affairs Secretary Locsin and UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reinforces PH-UAE bilateral relations further. END
