PH Embassy in Italy facilitates repatriation of 5 stranded Filipinos

ROME, 27 December 2021 – Five Filipinos who were stranded in Rome, Italy due to flight restrictions as a result of measures to curb the spread of the Omicron variant joined sixty-seven other stranded Filipinos in Europe in the government-initiated repatriation sweeper flight. 

The repatriates arrived in Manila on 24 December 2021 via a Philippine Airlines flight organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs - Office of Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA). The flight departed from Jeddah and proceeded to Dubai, UAE to pick up passengers from Europe, particularly those in European countries classified as COVID-19 “red” and “yellow” zones. 

The five Filipinos from Rome were assisted by the Assistance-to-Nationals Team of the Philippine Embassy in Italy from the time they contacted the Embassy for help, until they all safely boarded their aircraft on Thursday afternoon.

DFA-OUMWA, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassies and Consulates located in Europe, including the Philippine Embassy in Italy, and the Philippine Consulate in Dubai, joined forces to organize the repatriation.

The repatriates expressed their appreciation for the government assistance during their time of need. END
