ASEAN sends aid to ‘Odette’ victims

JAKARTA, 31 December 2021 - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), demonstrated its solidarity with Filipinos who were affected by Typhoon Rai (local name “Odette”) that struck the Philippines in December 2021.

The AHA Centre mobilized relief items  stockpiled at its   Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN Satellite Warehouse in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City   to augment government relief efforts.  The relief items, consisting of 541 shelter repair kits, 275 family tents, 5,000 family kits, 1,000 rolls of tarpaulin, 5,000 personal hygiene kits, and 1,000 kitchen sets were distributed to the regions severely affected by the typhoon through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). The items were donated by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund and Direct Relief, a nonprofit humanitarian organization based in the United States.

Relief items were distributed on 23 December 2021 in Surigao province, and on 29 December 2021 in Cebu.  The AHA Centre is in close coordination with OCD for the distribution of the remaining relief items. END
