PHNOM PENH, 21 January 2022 — Philippine Ambassador Maria Amelita C. Aquino had an audience with Her Majesty Samdech Preah Mahaksatrey Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, The Queen Mother of Cambodia, at the Royal Palace 18 January 2022 where they discussed the close people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Cambodia that date back even before the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Her Majesty, The Queen Mother also recalled the work of the late King Father, Samdech Preah Bat Norodom Sihanouk and the exchanges with Filipino leaders at that time.

As the historical links that bind the two countries include Filipino musicians who helped form and train the Royal Reed and Brass Band, Ambassador Aquino presented The Queen Mother with a vinyl record “The Music of the Prince of Cambodia”,  which was released by Villar Records  and features four original music compositions of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk  performed by the Villar Symphonette and arranged and conducted by Filipino composer Leopoldo Silos.

Ambassador Aquino commended Her Majesty’s active involvement in charities and humanitarian work and expressed support for activities commemorating the late King Father’s 100th birth anniversary in 2022.

The Queen Mother wished for the success of Ambassador Aquino’s mission in Cambodia and for the further strengthening of the bilateral relations and friendship between the Philippines and Cambodia. END
