PH Ambassador, CZ Member of European Parliament discuss strengthening of PH-EU, ASEAN-EU trade relations 

“An enhanced trade relationship between ASEAN and the EU will be of great benefit to all of us,” said Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ombra T. Jainal to Czech Member of the European Parliament Jan Zahradil at their meeting at the Embassy in Prague on 02 February 2022.

Mr. Zahradil, who is currently the First Vice Chair of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, assured that the Czech representation will elevate the strengthening of trade relations with Asia in the agenda during the upcoming Presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union.

A pro-trade advocate, Mr. Zahradil stated that the Czech Republic, a country dependent on exports, is very much in favor of trade agreements with the rest of the world. It is to their interest to trade with Asia, more particularly with ASEAN as it is currently the most dynamic region in the world.

The Philippines considers the EU as an important trade partner. To date, the Philippines is a beneficiary country of the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preference Plus (GSP+) and is in negotiations with the EU for a Free Trade Agreement. (Prague PE photos)
