PH Ambassador Chan presents credentials to Brazilian President Bolsonaro, expresses PH interest to elevate defense coop with Brazil

BRASILIA, 14 February 2022 – Philippine Ambassador Mario F. Chan presented his credentials to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on 10 February 2022 at the Planalto Palace. During the presentation, Ambassador Chan conveyed the assurances of sincere friendship of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Brazilian President.

Ambassador Chan also conveyed to Pres. Bolsonaro his commitment to further strengthen and expand the friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and Brazil. An immediate connection was struck between President Bolsonaro and Ambassador Chan as both were former high-ranking members of the uniformed armed service of their respective countries.

Ambassador Chan noted the recent delivery of six Brazil-made Super Tucano aircraft from Brazil to the Philippine Air Force, which are now in active service. He also conveyed the current interest in the Philippines to engage with Brazil in joint ventures for production of defense materiel. Pres. Bolsonaro conveyed his pleasure to hear from the Ambassador the burgeoning relationship between the Philippines and Brazil in the area of defense cooperation.

Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco França noted the strengthening Philippines-Brazil bilateral trade relations, and its potential for further growth. In the area of investments, the Foreign Minister spoke about Brazil’s satisfaction with Philippine investments in the ports in Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro, while inviting more investment from the Philippines through the Brazilian Investment Partnership Program.

At the end of his message, the Philippine Ambassador conveyed appreciation to President Bolsonaro for the kind hospitality extended by his country to members of the Filipino community that have made Brazil their second home. END
