29 May 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria announced the resumption of overseas voters registration which will run until October 31, 2015 in preparation for the May 2016 naitonal elections.
Ambassador Alex V. Lamadrid encouraged Filipinos in Nigeria and in the 17 other countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction to register as soon as possible so that they would be able to exercise their right to vote in May 2016.
A total of three applications for registration were facilitated by the Embassy on May 06, the first day of registration.
Vice Consul Ralf G. Roldan was the Embassy’s first registrant.
Registration for overseas voters is held at the Philippine Embassy in Abuja during regular office hours from Monday to Friday. Applicants must present a copy of their Philippine passport or any other Philippine government-issued photo ID.
Registration will also be held during the Embassy’s scheduled consular missions to various cities in Nigeria and around West and Central Africa.
In celebration of the 116th Philippine Independence Day, the Embassy intends to hold overseas voters registration, in addition to its consular missions, in Cotonou, Benin Republic on May 30; Lagos, Nigeria on June 01; Accra, Ghana on June 14; and Port Harcourt, Nigeria on June 15. Filipinos in Abuja are encouraged to register during the June 12 celebration for the Filipino community at the Embassy.
