30 May 2014- The Philippine Consulate General led the Filipino community in Macau to express support for boxer Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. in a gathering of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the headquarters of Caritas Macau.  On Saturday, May 31, Donaire will be featured in the main bout when he fights the undisputed featherweight world champion Simpiwe “V12” Vetyeka of South Africa at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau.

In his remarks, Consul Pete Raymond V. Delfin praised Donaire for continuing to inspire millions of Filipinos around the world with his achievements in boxing.  He invited the Filipinos in Macau to cheer for the boxer on Saturday, saying that Donaire’s victory is also a victory for the Philippines.

Donaire, the 2012 Fighter of the Year, thanked the Filipinos who were in attendance during the event and said that the strength of OFWS working far from their families in the Philippines is truly admirable.   He was later interviewed by local media and had his photo taken with the Filipinos in Macau.
