Philippine Embassy Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Credentials Recognition for Filipino Professions in Canada

OTTAWA 30 March 2022 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada hosted a Roundtable Discussion on Credentials Recognition for Filipino Professionals at the Chancery’s Mindanao Hall today with members of the Philippine delegation led by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III on 28 March 2022. Chairman De Vera was joined by Dr. Shirley Agrupis, President of the Mariano Marcos State University, Dr. Joselito Villaruz, President of West Visayas State University, and Ms. Ina Isabella Fanio of CHED.
Philippine Ambassador to Canada Rodolfo Robles underscored the Philippine Embassy’s ongoing work to support Filipino professionals who are undertaking the credentials recognition process in Canada, particularly those in the healthcare sector, and expressed the important role of CHED in advancing this objective.
Philippine Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III delivered a presentation on the Credentials Recognition project of the Philippine Posts in Canada, noting that all the Action Points of Phase I had been completed and that the Project has commenced its second phase.
Chairman De Vera commended the efforts of the Philippine Embassy and shared the latest developments in Philippine tertiary education with the group, emphasizing relevant updates to the nursing curriculum and possible options to support Filipino nurses seeking the recognition of their educational and training credentials in Canada.
Drs. Villaruz and Agrupis also shared their own observations and suggestions on the issue based on their experiences in their respective institutions. West Visayas State University and Mariano Marcos State University are among the Philippines’ Centers of Excellence in Nursing Education.
