GENEVA 31 March 2022 – The Philippines continues to push its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) agenda in the international arena as it participated in the 2022 Session of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council held at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva on 21-31 March 2022. Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Alan A. Silor led the nine-member delegation comprised of DICT and NTC officials.

Undersecretary Silor also spearheaded the campaign for the Philippines’ candidature for ITU Council membership for the term 2023-2026 via personal engagement with counterparts. He also met with ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary-General Malcolm Johnson, and a number of ITU Directors.

The Philippine delegation visited the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva on 30 March 2022 to call on Permanent Representative Ambassador Evan P. The Philippines has been an active member of the ITU since 1912 and is a long-serving member of the Governing Council. The CONNECT, HARNESS, INNOVATE and PROTECT (CHIP) framework serves as the Philippines’ strategic guide in bolstering digital readiness and utilizing the digital economy’s potential in line with the country’s commitment to the ITU’s Connect 2030 Agenda of connecting all to a better world.
