BANGKOK 12 April 2022 — Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes kicked off the overseas voting in Thailand on 10 April 2022, by dropping her vote in the ballot box during the opening hour.
While the voting activity was taking place at the Embassy on the inaugural day, a mobile voting activity was also happening simultaneously in Phuket, alongside the consular outreach mission.
The 2022 Philippine national election marks the first time that the Automated Election System (AES), using a Vote Counting Machine (VCM), is used for overseas voting in Thailand, since the total number of registered voters reached the threshold of 10,000 voters at the end of the registration period in October 2021.
During the 2016 national election, the overseas voting turnout for Thailand was 56% of the more than 6,000 registered voters.
The Philippine Embassy is optimistic that the turnout for the 2022 national election will post higher numbers given the soaring enthusiasm of the Filipino electorate both in the Philippines and abroad.
Ambassador Paredes is encouraging overseas Filipino voters in Thailand, especially those who are based in the Bangkok metropolitan area, to visit the Embassy at the earliest opportunity to claim and drop off their ballots. The Ambassador has reminded the electorate to value the importance of their right to vote, and contribute to a clean, honest and orderly election. END
