Philippines Receives 50,000 Doses of Vaccines from Qatar

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity/Chief of the National Task Force against COVID-19 (left) and His Excellency Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al-Malki, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Philippines (right) welcomed the arrival of 50,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines donated by the Qatari Government.

PASAY CITY 17 April 2022 – The Government of the Philippines received 50,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines on 13 April 2022, donated by the Government of the State of Qatar, PH’s partner in the fight against COVID-19.

The vaccines were purchased through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), a public corporation established to support development programs and projects. According to QFFD Director-General Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, the assistance is a confirmation of Qatar’s role and efforts in supporting friendly countries to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The total amount of USD 450,000 was directly transferred by the QFFD to Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd. The delivery and transportation of the vaccines from China to the Philippines was facilitated by the vaccine manufacturer.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity/Chief of the National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF COVID-19), and His Excellency Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al-Malki, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Philippines, led the turnover ceremony at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Secretary Robert Borje, Vice Chairperson of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and former Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs; DFA Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs Alfonso A. Ver; Dr. Maria Soledad Q. Antonio, Director of the Department of Health-Bureau of International Health Cooperation (DOH-BIHC); and Mr Felizardo R. Colambo, Office of the Special Envoy of the President to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the arrival of the vaccines.

The 50,000 doses donated by the government of Qatar were delivered together with the 25,000 doses from Sinovac Biotech. END
