RISHON LEZION 06 April 2022 – Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte and Rishon Lezion Municipality Mayor Raz Kinstlich signed an Agreement on Cooperation by and between the City of Quezon, Philippines and the City of Rishon Lezion, Israel, during a virtual signing ceremony held via Zoom online platform on 06 April 2022.

The signing was witnessed by Philippine Ambassador to Israel Macairog S. Alberto and Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss.

Mayor Belmonte and Mayor Kinstlich acknowledged the invaluable contribution of President Manuel L. Quezon’s “Open Door” policy, where he offered the Philippines as a safe have for the 1,300 Jewish refugees who fled the Holocaust in Europe, to fostering close relations between the Philippines and Israel.  Both mayors viewed the historic link a gateway for the sister city agreement between Quezon City, which was named after President Quezon, and Rishon Lezion, home of the Open Doors Monument.

The agreement will serve as the basis for cooperation between the two cities, by creating avenues for mutual learning in the areas of economic; educational; cultural and sporting activities; and tourism, and by conducting exchange of visits between Quezon City and Rishon Lezion municipal officials and other people-to-people engagements.
