02 June 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez conducted a roadshow on April 30 in Izmir to further enhance the economic engagement between the Philippines and the city.
As a start to the roadshow, Ambassador Sanchez called on Izmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu to revive previous plans for a Cebu-Izmir sister city agreement. She also called on Governor Mustafa Toprak to express the Philippines' keen interest in strengthening its ties with Izmir.
Ambassador Sanchez visited Gediz Univeristy and met Univerity Rector Professor Seyfullah Cevik to discuss possible partnership between Gediz University and Philippine universities.
As part of the Embassy's campaign to increase trade between the Philippines and Turkey, Ambasasdor Sanchez met with the Chairman, Mr. Ender Yorgancilar, and board members of Agean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO) to explore possible cooperation between EBSO and Philippine companies in the future.
A conference on Philippine trade, investments and tourism attended by 70 businessmen was one of the highlights of the roadshow. During the conference, Ambassador Sanchez delivered a presentation on the advantages of doing business and investing in the Philippines. END
