PH Embassy Helps OFW in Bahrain Return Home after 10 Years
MANAMA 02 May 2022 – The Philippine Embassy successfully repatriated OFW, Ms. Chelo Borromeo, an OFW in Bahrain for 10 years who is suffering from an illness and was admitted at the Salmaniya Medical Complex from January 2022 until her repatriation, on 21 April 2022.
Prior to her illness, Ms. Borromeo worked as a domestic helper until her visa expired. She then accepted part-time jobs to continue to support her family. During her stay at the hospital for three months, the Embassy regularly checked on the condition of Ms. Borromeo until she was cleared for discharge and travel.
The Embassy, through the DFA ATN Fund shouldered the repatriation expenses of Ms. Borromeo, and coordinated with OWWA and other relevant government agencies for the assistance to Ms. Borromeo upon her arrival in Manila, including transport to her hometown in Davao City, where she is now reunited with her family.
The Embassy acknowledges and thanks the Salmaniya Medical Complex, the Ministry of Interior’s Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office for their support and cooperation in facilitating the successful repatriation of Ms. Borromeo and other distressed Filipinos in Bahrain.
