REYKJAVIK 28 April 2022 – Philippine Ambassador Enrico T. Fos presented his credentials as non-resident ambassador to President of the Republic of Iceland Gudni Th. Johannesson in Reykjavik on 27 April 2022.

Ambassador Fos and President Johannesson agreed that the Philippines and Iceland should further strengthen their bilateral relations, especially in the areas of renewable and geothermal energy, tourism, and health care.

Iceland is a leader in harnessing geothermal energy and one of its major geothermal energy corporations has substantial investments in the Biliran geothermal project, located in Biliran province. The Ambassador and the Icelandic president agreed that more investments should be pursued in the Philippines, especially in the light of both countries’ commitments in pursuing green technology and efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Ambassador Fos’ presentation of his credentials to President Johannesson marks the formal acceptance of the Icelandic government of the role of the Ambassador as official envoy of the Philippines to Iceland. END
