PHNOM PENH 10 May 2022 – Filipino teachers in Cambodia organized an appreciation dinner on 30 April 2022 to convey gratitude to the Philippine Embassy for addressing the plight of Filipino teachers in Cambodia.

The teachers are enrolled in the Master’s Degree program, and the 18 Units of Professional Education program which are offered under the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHEd) Developing Global Filipino Teachers (DGFT) International Program.  In October 2020, the Philippine Embassy and Ched signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the implementation of the DGFT which is being piloted in Cambodia.

Ambassador Maria Amelita C. Aquino assured the teachers that the Embassy will continue to collaborate and cooperate with CHEd and other government agencies to address the concerns of Filipino teachers and overseas Filipinos.  Ambassador Aquino further expressed support for the continued professional development of Filipino global educators.

More than 1,000 Filipino educators are in Cambodia, mostly working as English teachers in the various private international schools in the Kingdom. END
