DAMASCUS 12 May 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Damascus conducted Consular, Legal, ATN and Overseas Field Voting missions in the governorates of Tartous, Lattakia, and Aleppo on 06-08 May 2022.

Chargé d' Affaires, a.i Vida Soraya Verzosa led the team comprised of Consular Assistant Mr. Dionisio Abrenica, Overseas Voting SBEI member Ms. Girlie Corpin and local hire employees Mr. Mohammad Abdullah and Mr. Raed Hawat. Philippine Honorary Consul General Wassim Nanaa also attended the mission to assist in negotiations with the Syrians who came.

In Lattakia, Dr. Batoul Salman requested a meeting with CDA Verzosa. Together with PHCG Nanaa, they discussed possible educational programs for the Philippines.

Coach Nisreen Hamad, the Tartous Coach of the Filipina-Syrian gymnastics champion, also paid a courtesy call to CDA Verzosa where they discussed sports diplomacy.

One of the Filipinas married to a Syrian, Ms. A, was overjoyed that the Embassy conducted the mission. She said, “Salamat po at nagkaroon ng mission dito sa pagpunta ninyo kasi napakahirap bumiyahe papuntang Damascus. Napakalaking tulong po ang pagpunta ninyo.” It is part of Post’s mandate to bring its services closer to the Filipino Communities across Syria by conducting consular, legal and ATN missions regularly.
