PH Embassy in Athens Mounts Consular Outreach Mission, Ballot Collection in Greece’s Second Largest City

ATHENS 19 May 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Athens conducted its first consular mission in Thessaloniki, Greece, another Greek city outside Athens, on 07-08 May 2022. 

A total of 23 consular services were provided and a total of 40 ballots for the 09 May 2022 Philippine National Elections were also collected by the Embassy’s Special Ballot Custody and Reception Group (SBRCG) from the registered Filipino voters in Thessaloniki. Registered voters who were still unable to receive their ballots were also allowed to make their affidavit/undertaking in order to vote.

The Philippine Overseas and Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) in Greece joined the consular mission. POLO verified 18 employment documents, while OWWA processed 35 OWWA membership applications. The Embassy’s team was assisted by volunteers from the Filipino Organization in Northern Greece (FONG).

Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and one of the oldest cities in Europe with a land area of 19.31 sq.km. and a population of about 800,000 people. It is also one of the Greek cities with a large population of Filipinos outside of Athens. END
