Philippines and Argentina Hold a High-Level Meeting to Discuss Further Enhancing Cooperation as the Two Countries Prepare to Celebrate 75 Years of Bilateral Relations in 2023

BUENOS AIRES, 25 May 2022 - The Philippines and Argentina affirmed their longstanding relations through a high-level meeting on 19 May 2022 in Buenos Aires between Philippine Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs, Ambassador Maria Theresa Lazaro, and Argentine Undersecretary for External Relations, Ambassador Claudio Javier Rozencwaig.
The meeting took place during Undersecretary Lazaro's official visit to Buenos Aires to inaugurate the new Chancery of the Philippine Embassy and as both countries prepare to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in August 2023. She was joined by the Philippine Ambassador to Argentina, Linglingay F. Lacanlale, and officials of the Philippine Embassy.
The Undersecretaries discussed a broad range of items during their meeting, which spanned agricultural and technical cooperation, peaceful uses of nuclear energy, cooperation in satellites, defense, culture, and enhancing bilateral trade relations. Argentina is keen on exporting more of its famous beef to the Philippines, in addition to pork, and expressed the hope that more of its meat-packing plants would be cleared to enter the Philippine market.
Both sides expressed satisfaction at the progress of bilateral initiatives, with the Fourth Bilateral Consultations in May 2021 identifying several new avenues for cooperation.
Ambassador Lazaro also expressed the Philippines' sincere gratitude for Argentina's donation of 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the Philippines.
The meeting ended with a commitment to further advance Philippine-Argentine relations, with both sides eager to have a face-to-face Bilateral Consultations to be held in Manila in the first quarter of 2023 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
