04 June 2014 - A consular team from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok led by Minister and Consul General Edgar Badajos served the consular needs of Filipinos in Hatyai city in the province of Songkhla and from the neighboring provinces of Yala, Pattani, Patthalung, Satun, and Nakhon Si Thammarat on May 31. The services rendered by the consular team included processing of passport applications, authentication of documents, registration of vital civil registry records, and registration of overseas absentee voters.
During the outreach, Minister Badajos held a dialogue during which he addressed various concerns raised by members of the Filipino community. He also discussed relevant provisions of the Thai Social Security Law and the Workmen’s Compensation Act to give members of the community an idea of their basic rights, privileges and obligations under the two laws.
There are an estimated 100 Filipinos residing in these 6 provinces. Most of them are working as English teachers in local public and private schools.
The Organization of Filipino Educators in Southern Thailand (OFEST) led by its President, Mrs. Phylis Clomata, helped organize the consular outreach program. The occasion turned out to be a joyous gathering for Filipinos in Southern Thailand to meet Embassy officials, socialize with one another, and exchange views and ideas on their experiences in the workplace.
