4 June 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Raul S. Hernandez met with General Curtis Scaparroti, Commander of the United States Forces in Korea and United Nations Command (UNC) during the UNC Spring Reception on May 30 at Dragon Hill Lodge, US Army Garrison inYongsan, Seoul. General Scaparroti welcomed Ambassador Hernandez on his recent arrival in South Korea and expressed appreciation to the Philippine government for its active membership to the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC).
The UNCMAC was established in 1953 right after the Korean War to monitor the compliance of North and South Korea to the Armistice Agreement which halted the military hostilities between the two countries. It is, however, not a peace treaty signifying that the Korean War has not officially ended.
Ambassador Hernandez also witnessed the awarding of Plaques of Appreciation to outgoing Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché to South Korea and Philippine Liaison Officer to UNCMAC Col. Eddie Maningding (3rd from left) and outgoing Administrative Assistant and Philippine Assistant Liaison Officer to UNCMAC MSgt Carlito Caduyac (extreme left). Col. Maninding and MSgt. Caduyac will soon be ending their tour of duty to South Korea.
Also attending the event are Mrs. Maria Ana Hernandez, First Secretary and Consul General Iric C. Arribas of the Philippine Embassy and Mrs. Cora Maninding. END
