PH Ambassador Keynotes World Chefs Congress, Lauds Role of Filipino Chefs in highlighting PH at World Expo Dubai
ABU DHABI 06 June 2022 — Philippine Ambassador to United Arab Emirates Hjayceelyn M. Quintana was a keynote speaker at the WorldChefs Congress and Expo 2022 held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in Abu Dhabi from 30 May 2022 to 02 June 2022.
In her remarks, Ambassador Quintana cited the key role of UAE-based Filipino chefs and the private advocacy group FilFood, in the success of the Philippine World Expo participation in Dubai. “Through research and determination, the FilFood team was able to curate a distinct menu that showcased the best of Filipino food to the world through our national pavilion at the World Expo. It was well-received throughout the Expo’s 6- month run among the million plus people who visited the Philippines pavilion,” says Ambassador Quintana.
Ambassador Quintana further said that “as the Filipino food movement finds its own voice, we are able to develop a cadre of culinary ambassadors who will insist on authenticity, thereby developing a market for Filipino ingredients and adding more value to the lives of farmers, fisherfolks, artisans, producers, and everyone else in the ecosystem who bring food to the table.”
The Philippines was the featured country at the Congress with a cooking demonstration that highlighted sustainable ingredients from the Philippines. The 94 year-old WorldChefs Congress brought together thousands of delegates from 105 countries, 200 exhibitors, 4,000 chefs, 65 international speakers, and 70 participants of the global chefs challenge.
