04 June 2014- In continuation of the celebration of International Women’s Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR brought back Dr. Michael Manio, a Filipino member of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of Hong Kong University and graduate of the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine, for a talk on women’s health issues on 25 May 2014 at the Consulate General’s Public Area.
Aptly entitled Magtanong Kay Doc Mike, the event was conducted in a talk show format where the Filipino Community participated in the question-and-answer portion by sharing their experiences on their health problems. Vice Consul Fatima Guzman served as host of the show. The talk was a continuation of Dr. Manio’s Forum on Menopause and Cardiovascular Diseases affecting Women and Andropause last March 23.
During the event, Dr. Manio gave advice on how to address the effects of menopause such as sleep problems and hot flashes. He also provided an in-depth discussion on hypertension and cardiovascular issues especially affecting women.
The audience, which was composed mostly of Filipino women, welcomed the new format of the health talk as it provided them a venue for a more personal discussion on their health issues.
Ms. Ofelia Baquiran, a Filipino community member, also shared her experience as a woman dealing with cardiovascular problems. Mr. Jong Inocencio of Voice Image Productions oversaw the over-all production arrangements of the event.
Mini-skits on the Overseas Voters Registration (OVR), Pag-IBIG and Social Security System by Lakbay Dangal were also presented during the event to promote some of the Consulate General’s services for the Filipino community in Hong Kong. END
