Outgoing Philippine Ambassador Timbayan Receives Al Wajba Medal from Qatar Emir Tamim

DOHA 01 July 2022 — Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Alan L. Timbayan was bestowed the Al Wajba Medal by His Highess the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during the former’s farewell call on the Emir at the Emiri Diwan (Presidential Palace) on 27 June 2022.
The Al Wajba Medal is a decoration bestowed on foreign ambassadors accredited to the State of Qatar in recognition of their valuable services and contributions to the State of Qatar.
The two officials expressed mutual appreciation for the strengthening bilateral relations and deepening people-to-people linkages between the Philippines and Qatar in the last 5 years since the visit of President Rodrigo Road Duterte to Qatar in April 2017.
Ambassador Timbayan thanked His Highness the Emir for standing by the Philippines at the height of the COVID-19 pademic, and for taking care of 241,000 Filipino community in Qatar.
The Emir praised the important contributions of Filipino medical frontliners in Qatar’s overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic, describing the Filipino medical frontliners as “commendable and inspiring”, as well as the overall contribution of the Filipino community to the growth and development of Qatar.
Prior to the call on the Emir, Ambassador Timbayan also bid farewell to His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, at the Emir Diwan on 27 June 2022.
Ambassador Timbayan will complete his tour of duty on 30 June 2022. END
