Singapore  Indak at Habi
5 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, in pursuit of its cultural diplomacy objectives, has supported a talk on Philippine dance and fabric at the
 Monday Morning Lecture held at the Asian Civilizations Museum Ngee Ann Auditorium on June 02.

The lecture entitled, “INDAK AT HABI... the Philippines Through Dance and Fabric,” was organized by the Friends of the Museums (FOM) Singapore under its “Monday Morning Lecture Series” that aims to promote cultural awareness. The series runs from September to June each year. The lecture on June 02 was the last edition of the current season of the series.

The resource persons included Ms. Celia Diaz Defato, Managing Director of Kultura Performing Arts Pte. Ltd., who made a presentation on Philippine dances and Ms. Digna Cruzem Ryan, Coordinator of Textile Enthusiasts Group, who discussed Philippine fabric.


The event, which was attended by members of the local Filipino and expatriate communities in Singapore, also showcased a performance entitled, “The Islands of the Philippines”, where select Filipinas donned their traditional Filipino costumes made of T’nalac, inabel, and piña.

The lecture was scheduled to coincide with the commemoration of the 116th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence this month of June.

First Secretary and Consul Mersole J. Mellejor and Ms. Antoinette Villa of the Embassy’s Cultural Section attended the event. END
