BARCELONA, 02 July 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers´ Welfare Office (OWWA) Madrid jointly organized a Seminar on Bartending on 02 July 2022.
The seminar aimed to provide the members of the Filipino community with additional skill-set to open more employment opportunities for them. The seminar was an opportune occasion for the attendees given the increasing demand in bartending jobs in Catalonia following the relaxation of mobility restrictions and the subsequent opening of tourism-related establishments, especially restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels.
“We are giving you this seminar to give you an opportunity to learn new skills or upgrade your skills so more employment opportunities will be opened for you,” said Consul General Maria Theresa SM. Lazaro. “This is part of our program to empower Filipinos to help create a better life for everyone,” added Lazaro.
OWWA-Madrid Welfare Officer Maria Corazon Sangco welcomed the attendees who took advantage of the personalized training given by seasoned Filipino bartender, Mr. Dennis Barela Adluba. The resource speaker brings with him 23 years of professional experience and numerous awards to impart the art and science of bartending much to the appreciation of the overseas Filipinos present.
The interactive approach of the resource person made for a very lively and productive session as the participants got to experience preparing five different cocktails themselves. Mr. Adluba’s fusion “Pinoy Mojito” was the most popular as it gave a Philippine twist on the popular Cuban cocktail. The use of the Philippine Don Papa Rum during the seminar was also a welcome move as it was a good occasion to introduce and promote it to the participants.
The participants have nothing but praises for the organizers. They said that it was one of the most informative events that they have attended. “With my current professional status, the seminar inspired me to pursue an additional craft which will help uplift my present economic situation” said Filipino vlogger Sherwin Guipitacio Penaranda. Another participant, Ms. Rhoda Decano intimated “Despite my busy schedule, I allotted time to attend the seminar and I have no regrets as it was quality time well spent. Not only did I learn a useful skill, but I also had so much fun bonding with my fellow participants.”
Participants at the seminar were each given a Certificate of Attendance by Labor Attaché Nelson Victorino. END
