BUENOS AIRES, 29 July 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Argentina participated in the 39th edition of Paraguay’s “Expo Mariano Alonso” in Mariano Roque Alonso on 18 to 19 July 2022. Third Secretary and Consul Miguel Hornilla, the Philippine Embassy’s Economic Officer, joined diplomats from Saudi Arabia and Serbia in meeting high-level Paraguayan government officials and heads of important business chambers during the event.

The Expo is one of Paraguay’s most prestigious annual events and showcases the country’s diverse products, including its famous beef. During his remarks at the Expo, Paraguay’s Minister for Industry and Commerce, Mr. Luis Castiglioni, highlighted Paraguay as a place where public and private sectors work for the common good. As external factors continue to exert pressure on global trade, Minister Castiglioni is confident that his country can be considered a reliable and stable partner for all countries.

The visiting delegation members toured various stands and familiarized themselves with Paraguayan products, and visited Neuland Frigorifico, the country’s best-ranked meat-processing plant, whose business model centers on ethical production.

Paraguay is one of the most important agricultural producers in South America. In recent years, the industry has also developed at a fast pace, turning Paraguay into a dynamic, business-friendly destination in the region.

For this reason, Mr. Hornilla conducted business meetings with various chambers of commerce to link them with Philippine tuna exporters. Paraguay represents a potential market for Philippine tuna in the region.
