BARCELONA, 02 August 2022 – The Regina Coeli Choir from Cavite performed for audiences in Barcelona after their participation in the 68th International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition held in the City of Torrevieja on 17 to 23 July 2022.

The 20-member group headed by their choir director Mr. Renalie Aquino held separate performances at the Parroquia de la San Pedro Nolasco and the Parròquia Internacional la Mare de Déu de Betlem on 30 and 31 July 2022, respectively.  Their first song “Receive the Power” which is the theme song for the World Youth Day was a prelude to other inspirational and religious songs given by the choir which elicited emotional reactions from those present.   Aliados Cantantes and Coro Filipino MDBetlem also lent their talents by rendering religious songs during the program at San Pedro Nolasco and Betlem, respectively.

Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro in her message thanked the parish priest of Parroquia Belem, Father Adilson Tolentino for allowing the Regina Coeli Choir to perform at his parish.  She also commended the choir for using their God-given talents to share their faith through their performances.  She ended by speaking directly to the Filipinos present and said, “I hope that through their voices, the Regina Coeli Choir allowed you to remember the beauty and wonders of our motherland.”

For his part, Father Adilson said, “I applaud the Regina Coeli Choir for the spiritual experience that they have provided to all of us who listened to their rendition of well-liked religious hymns”.

The emotional performance was well received by the members of the Filipino community as well as those from the Spanish and international communities.  The Regina Coeli Choir showcased their versatility by having Pilipino, Spanish, and other traditional songs in their repertoire.

The concert was aptly ended by the choir’s lively rendition of “Piliin ang Pilipinas” which also served to promote the Philippines as a tourist destination among the foreigners who watched the concert. END
