GENEVA, 01 August 2022 – A Memorandum of Understanding that paves the way for the establishment of a Joint Master’s Degree Program in Intellectual Property Management and Innovation in the Philippines was signed recently between IPOPHL Director General Rowel Barba, together with De La Salle University President Br. Bernard Oca, FSC, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy represented by Director General Tang on 21 July 2022.

The Master’s Degree Program on Intellectual Property (IP) with specialization in IP management and innovation at De La Salle University will offer advanced training and enhance teaching skills related to intellectual property. The Program will be offered in face-to-face and online classes, and will focus on practical skills development aimed at human resources development in the Asia Pacific. Due to a strong demand for postgraduate studies in IP management, the Program will be open to Filipino and international candidates.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Philippine delegation, headed by Ambassador Evan P. Garcia, Brother Bernie Oca and DG Barba, Mr. Andrew Ong (WIPO Director for Asia Pacific), Atty. Christopher Cruz of DLSU, and WIPO Deputy Director General Hassan Kleib at the sidelines of the 63rd WIPO General Assemblies.

The Philippine Permanent Mission in Geneva and the Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of Treaties and Legal Affairs, in cooperation with IPOPHL and Mr. Andrew Ong, gave their support to the MOU and the Joint Master’s Degree Program, which is the first academic degree program of its kind in the ASEAN region.
