MOSCOW, 02 AUGUST 2022 – In commemoration of United Nations World Day against Human Trafficking, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow on 31 July 2022, hosted Kapehan sa Pasuguan Against Human Trafficking to discuss with the Filipino community the latest national and international laws, and international, regional, national and local government unit (LGU) mechanisms in the global fight against human trafficking. Ms. Juliana Pavlovskaya, officer-in-charge of the Russia office of the International Organization for Migration, and Mr. Murat Yildirim of INTERPOL (through live video conference) shared their expertise and experience on the subject.

Philippine Ambassador to Russia Igor Bailen in his welcome remarks said, “Human trafficking is modern-day slavery...a national and international crime. And no one should be a victim of human trafficking, whether you are a Filipino or a national of another country...Love for family is what motivates every Filipino to leave her loved ones and work abroad...Human trafficking destroys that love...The Philippines and Russia, with the help of IOM and INTERPOL, can and will cooperate even more closely, to stop this modern-day slavery. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is committed to ending [human] trafficking...”

Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Robert Ferrer, and 3rd Secretary and Vice Consul Catherine Alpay facilitated the open forum and a question-and-answer portion which followed. END
