HONG KONG 02 September 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) participated in the 7th Belt & Road (B&R) Summit organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) from 31 August to 01 September. The Summit was conducted using a hybrid format, with in-person events held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKEC) that were streamed virtually.

The B&R Summit marks the 9th year since the B&R Initiative was launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. It is one of the major events this year that marks the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China. This year’s theme for the Summit is “Heralding a New Chapter: Collaborate and Innovate.” More than 6,000 senior government officials and business leaders from more than 80 countries and regions participated in the event.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee personally delivered his remarks at the Opening Ceremony. He identified Hong Kong’s “close connection with the world and strong support from the motherland” as its distinctive advantages. He also emphasized the city’s role as a global city, international financial and trade center, and business bridge between Mainland China and the rest of the world.

The Consulate and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) maintained adjoining booths that featured the Philippines’ “Make It Happen in the Philippines” (MIH) campaign to attract foreign direct investments. The campaign especially focuses on key industries that have the most potential for investment, particularly Aerospace, Automotive, Copper, IT & Business and Electronics.

As part of the programs and activities under the B&R Summit, Vice Consul and Commercial Attache Roberto Mabalot, Jr. delivered a presentation on the “Make It Happen in the Philippines” campaign to emphasize the advantages of investing in the Philippines. He also gave interviews to HKTDC and Xinhua News Agency to encourage investment in the Philippines. END
