THE HAGUE, 05 September 2022 – Philippine relations with the Dutch Caribbean were given a boost with the visit of a Philippine Embassy team there on 20 to 25 August. Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya made calls on Aruba Prime Minister Evelyna Wever-Croes and Sint Maarten Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs on 21 August and 24 August 2022, respectively, at the sidelines of the Embassy’s consular mission in said islands.
Filipinos were cited by Prime Minister Evelyna Wever-Croes of Aruba as among those who integrate faster in Aruba in view of their dedication and hard work and ability to communicate well with their clients and employers.
“In the hospitals, patients prefer Filipino nurses because of their excellent work — they care more, communicate well, and that’s something we appreciate so much,” Prime Minister Wever-Croes told Ambassador Malaya during a courtesy call on August 22 at the Prime Minister’s Office in Oranjestad.
Ambassador Malaya conveyed the Philippine Government and the Embassy’s gratitude to the Aruban Government for being welcoming host to Filipinos. “Your proactive, compassionate, inclusive leadership enabled Aruba and its peoples, including the members of the Filipino community, to be resilient and recover faster from the pandemic,” said Malaya.
“The Embassy intends to dispatch an embassy team to Aruba more often in order to be responsive to the consular needs of the Filipinos residing and working here, and to look after their welfare more closely,” said Malaya.
Ambassador Malaya also called on Aruba Acting Governor Agustin Vrolijk and discussed possible areas for collaboration.
Ambassador Malaya and Prime Minister Jacobs exchanged views on the robust relations between the Philippines and The Netherlands and its overseas territories, including Sint Maarten.
The Ambassador also briefly met Minister of Finance H.E. Ardwell M.R. Irion who cited Filipinos as “very family-oriented” and hoped that the younger generation will continue this culture.
