President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr. Meets with Filipinos in Indonesia

JAKARTA 06 September 2022 — Shortly after arriving in Jakarta, Indonesia for his very first foreign visit, His Excellency Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, met with Filipinos based in Indonesia at an event organized by the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta at the Fairmont Hotel on 04 September 2022.

The visit highlights the close bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia which has spanned almost 73 years across a wide range of areas, such as security, defense, trade and investments, and culture.

“I am heartened to see today that this kinship and close people-to-people ties continue to endure, as shown by the vitality of the Filipino community here in Indonesia,” the President said to the proud crowd that filled the Fairmont Grand Ballroom.

In his message, President Marcos Jr. congratulated the Filipino community for their success in Indonesia and for being valued members of the local society, calling each of them “Ambassadors of Goodwill.” The President highlighted that the stellar reputation of Filipinos contributes to sustaining trade, tourism and enhancing people-to-people links between the Philippines and Indonesia.

The President and First Lady were joined on stage by the members of the Philippine delegation which included Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo, Department of Defense Officer-in- Charge Jose Faustino Jr., Secretary of Finance Benjamin Diokno, Secretary of Trade and Industry Alfredo Pascual, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Felipe Medalla, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan "Toots" Ople, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Presidential Management Staff Secretary Zenaida Angping, as well as Representative Ferdinand Alexander Marcos III.

There are approximately three thousand Overseas Filipino Workers in the whole of the Indonesian archipelago holding managerial, professional, or technical level positions such as company directors, investors, engineers, accountants, supervisors, teachers and other professionals and highly technical staff. Similar to the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Indonesia is also a State Party to the 1990 UN International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.
