PH Officials Encourage Chinese Business Leaders to Invest More in the Philippines

XIAMEN 19 September 2022 — DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual, Chargé d' Affaires, a.i Dinno M. Oblena, Consul General Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena, DTI Assistant Secretary Allan Gepty and PTIC STO Froilan Emil D. Pamintuan, highlighted the strengths of the Philippines as an investment destination and invited more Chinese business leaders to invest in the Philippines during separate occasions during the 22nd China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) from 06-11 September 2022 in Xiamen, China.
At the World Leaders Round Table Meeting (WBLRTM) and the China (Fujian) Philippines Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Conference held in Manila, Secretary Pascual said Chinese investors should take advantage of the Philippines’ strong growth and positive trade relations with China and expressed the hope for Philippines-China cross-border trade and commerce.
CDA Oblena invited investors to look at manufacturing, infrastructure and construction, digital industries and food and agribusiness during the RCEP Trade and Economic Cooperation Conference. He emphasized the 49 million young and highly-educated labor force as well as the vast industrial parks and economic zones in the Philippines. At the same Forum, STO Pamintuan discussed Investment Policies for Manufacturing in the Philippines.
CG Oblena, highlighting the various steps and measures undertaken by the Philippine government to support digital e-commerce, narrated the status and prospects of e-commerce in the Philippines. She cited to the 250 attendees of the 2022 China Live E-Commerce Industry Development Conference that the Philippines has a dynamic consumer-driven economy which would propel e-commerce in the country.
Asst. Secretary Gepty reiterated the call to invest in the Philippines during the RCEP Cooperation Forum organized by the China Council for International Investment Promotion (CIIP). He said that as RCEP enters into force, new trade and investment opportunities will be open for the Philippines and China but efforts should still be made for RCEP to bear fruit.
The Philippines was Guest Country of Honor for CIFIT 2020 and 2021 where the Philippines showcased investment opportunities in key sectors of the country. CIFIT is touted as the best investment platform in China. END
