Yangon Meeting jwith Commander in Chief of Myanmar

9 June 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua paid a courtesy call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Services (CINCMDS) on June 4 in Nay Pyi Taw.

According to Ambassador Chua, the Philippines’ reopening in Myanmar of the Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché (ODAFA) and Myanmar’s designation of Brig. General Nyunt Swe as the non-resident Military Attaché of Myanmar to the Philippines will lead to further cooperation between both countries’ defense agencies.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the Philippines, particularly as the region inches forward towards the establishment of an ASEAN Community. He expressed hope that his visit to the Philippines on June  15 to18, the first from a Commander-in-Chief of CINCMDS since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1956, will contribute to the strengthening of Philippines-Myanmar bilateral relations.

Present during the courtesy call from the Philippine side were Defense and Armed Forces Attaché of the Philippines to Myanmar Colonel Edgardo Y. De Leon and Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Alan Roi Q. Gabriola. From the Myanmar side, the courtesy call was attended by Vice Senior General Soe Win, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Defense Services and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Hla Htay Win, Chief of General Staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Admiral Thura Thet Swe, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Lieutenant General Khin Aung Myint, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, and Major General Mya Tun Oo, Commander of No. 5, Bureau of Special Operations.
