PH Consulate General Seeks to Boost Sister City Relations and Economic Ties with Shanghai and its Districts

SHANGHAI 17 October 2022 – Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Josel F. Ignacio joined the Consuls General of countries with cities in a twinning relationship with Shanghai at  the ceremonial launch of the “Shanghai International Sister Cities Hub” on 29 September 2022. CPC-Shanghai Committee Deputy Secretary ZHUGE Yujie, Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) Director General ZHANG Xiaosong and other dignitaries led the ceremony.

The Shanghai International Sister Cities Hub is an initiative of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office and trading company Oriental International (Holding) Co. Ltd. It aims to facilitate the year-round display and sale of goods in Shanghai from its Sister Cities, including those featured and introduced at the weeklong China International Import Expo (CIIE) every November.

Shanghai and its Districts have sister-city ties with 92 cities and localities in 59 countries. Metro Manila’s twinning relationship with Shanghai started on 15 June 1983. While District of Huangpu’s, one of Shanghai’s district,  sister city relations with Makati City was established on 26 September 2002.

“We are privileged to have access to the Hub through Metro Manila’s ties with Shanghai. This affords us an important additional door by which Philippine goods can enter the Chinese market”, Consul General Ignacio emphasized.

The Hub is housed at Building A of the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center in 1988 Shenkun Road, Minhang District, Shanghai, which straddles both the venue of the renowned CIIE and Hongqiao International Airport. END
