10 June 2014 – Comission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Luie Tito F. Guia visited the Embassy and called on Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. and met with Embassy personnel, especially the deputized COMELEC representatives in charge of handling the registration of qualified voters for the 2016 Presidential, Senatorial and Party-List Elections. Commissioner Guia is in Mexico City to attend the “Forum on the Improvement of the Integrity of the Electoral Process” from June 3 to 5, organized by the Mexico Institute of National Elections and the National Institute of Democracy for Foreign Relations
Commissioner Guia also witnessed the registration process of an overseas voters registrant, Mr. Alfredo B. Albaciete, who hails from Bayugan, Agusan del Sur. Mr. Albaciete informed the Commissioner and Embassy representatives that it had been a long time since he had exercised his right to suffrage since he had been working in foreign countries for many years. He is pleased that postal voting is now possible since it would be very difficult and costly for him to go to Mexico City for the sole purpose of casting his vote because his workplace is five hours from the capital.
The Ambassador assured the Commissioner that the Philippine Embassy intensifying its campaign to register as many qualified overseas voters as possible. The Commissioner was also informed that the Ambassador and Mr. Randy Hilot, voter registration machine operator, will be proceeding to Panama from June 14 to 16, 2014 to conduct overseas voters registration of qualified applicants during the national day celebration of the Filipino community.
