BERLIN 28 October 2022 – Dr. Ronnie Concepcion II and Dr. Reibelle Raguindin were among this year’s awardees of the prestigious “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development'' hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The Green Talents International Forum features an international competition for outstanding young scientists committed to promoting sustainability in their communities. Since 2009, an elite jury of German experts has been selecting the "Green Talents" from a large number of candidates every year on the basis of the scientific excellence and innovation potential of the applicants: Drs. Concepcion and Raguindin were among the 25 selected.
Dr. Raguindin, who has earned her PhD in Energy Science and Technology at the age of 26, was recognized by the jury for her promising work on the thermo- and electrocatalytic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass (a byproduct of agriculture and forestry) platform compounds into fuels and value-added chemicals. She is currently working as a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Hanyang University in South Korea.
Similarly, the jury cited Dr. Concepcion for his research on a power-saving monitoring system and green network to control daily processes on a farm that reduce inefficient fertigation and greenhouse gas emissions. This process involves applying artificial intelligence to optimize organic circuit design. He is currently an associate professor in De La Salle University.
The awardees will travel to Germany next year for three months of research in a German partner institution of their choice.
Officials of the Philippine Embassy in Berlin attended the virtual awarding ceremony and were given a private virtual room to interact with the two awardees. END
