STOCKHOLM, 24 October 2022 – In line with the Philippine celebration of Museums and Galleries Month this October, the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm hosted an exhibit entitled “A Portrait of the Filipino as Artist” on 21 October 2022 at the Chancery, featuring the works of Filipino visual artist Mr. Roger San Miguel.
“Museums and galleries serve as bridges between our past and our present, just as it also gives us glimpses of our future. By showcasing Filipino artworks in this Embassy space, we aim to share with the public our sense of the world around us from a perspective that will always be unique to a Filipino,” said Philippine Ambassador to Finland Maria Lumen B. Isleta as she welcomed guests to the exhibit’s reception.
The artworks of Mr. San Miguel were loaned and donated by Mr. Lars Dagerholt, a Swedish national.
The Nightingales, a soprano duo of Ms. Katrina Saga and Ms. Bernadette Mamauag, serenaded guests with Philippine folk songs such as “Kabukiran” as well as popular classical and contemporary songs including “Granada” and “Runaway”.
The Embassy officials and personnel were joined by Swedish government officials, including Lidingö Mayor Daniel Källenfors, members of the diplomatic corps, entrepreneurs, and art enthusiasts. END
