BEIJING, 27 October 2022 – Philippine Embassy in Beijing Chargé d’affaires Dinno M. Oblena joined ASEAN Ambassadors and representatives in a working luncheon with China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on 26 October 2022 in Beijing upon the latter’s invitation. The high-level meeting came on the heels of the conclusion of the historic 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and prior to upcoming important summits of ASEAN, APEC and G20, which will be held respectively in Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi gave ASEAN representatives a briefing on the highlights of the CPC Party Congress, including President Xi Jinping’s reelection as party leader and the general direction of Chinese policies on development and engagement with other countries. He and ASEAN representatives also discussed prospects for further cooperation with China in different areas such as trade and COVID-19 prevention. They exchanged views on regional developments, including enhancing ASEAN’s role in the international community through the promotion of ASEAN Centrality. END
