SHANGHAI, 14 November 2022 – The enterprises of Shanghai’s economic, financial and innovation powerhouse District of Pudong had their appetites whetted by business opportunities in the Philippines, at the Philippine Investment Forum (PIF) held on 03 November 2022, at the Novotel Atlantis Hotel in Liujiazui.
The PIF was hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade-Shanghai Pudong Sub-Council (CCPIT-SPSC), and builds on a proposal put forward just weeks before by the Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Shanghai.
Opening the Forum, Consul General Josel F. Ignacio underscored the synergies and gains available in the Philippines vis-à-vis Chinese enterprises’ search for growth opportunities from overseas under China’s “Going Out” and “Dual Circulation” policies.
Commercial Counsellor Emmanuel N. Ang of PTIC-Beijing gave a presentation on the Philippines’ macroeconomic performance, Philippines-China trade and investment statistics, and enticing developments in the Philippines’ investment incentives’ regime.
Beijing-based Agricultural Counsellor Ana GM B. Abejuela discussed investment opportunities in agriculture and agribusiness, and the need for partners for agricultural inputs and infrastructure and equipment modernization.
The investment forum marks the opening salvo in the Philippines’ participation in the 5th China International Import Expo on 05-10 November. Along these lines, PTIC-Shanghai Chief Mario C. Tani provided an overview of the key elements of the Philippines’ presence at China’s biggest import-themed event.
Rounding off the Philippine delegation were Philippine Consulate General Economic Officer Consul John Francis S. Herrera and CITEM Business Representative Raymond Tan. END
