PH Ambassador and Brunei Darussalam Minister of Religious Affairs Discuss Halal Cooperation, Mindanao Development

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 14 November 2022 – Philippine Ambassador Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio and Brunei Darussalam Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Director Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman discussed potential areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly in halal infrastructure development and halal certification on 08 November 2022.
Ambassador Ignacio emphasized the role played by the development of halal practices in the Philippines on the development of Mindanao, especially with the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. She also expressed the Philippine Government’s appreciation for the abiding support extended by Brunei for the Mindanao Peace Process as a member of the International Monitoring Team.
Both officials recognized the importance of people-to-people exchanges. Pehin Badaruddin conveyed the hope that Brunei could become a destination for Filipino students in the future in the areas of Islamic studies and training for teachers in madaris in the Philippines, concentrated in Central and Western Mindanao.
