PH Consulate General in Istanbul Holds 6th and Final Leg of 2022 Roving Photo Exhibit

ISTANBUL, 13 November 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in İstanbul (İstanbul PCG) recently opened the 6thand final leg in 2022 of its roving photo exhibit in Edirne, a historically important city in northwestern Türkiye, on 11 November 2022.
The exhibit, called Gülümseyin, Philippines (translates to Smile, Philippines in English), features 16 original photographs of 15 Filipino photographers, namely, Jan Aliling, Mark Burgos, Jijo de Guzman, Paul J. Resurreccion, Gutch Gutierrez, Javi Flores, King Reyno, Kakai Arroyo, Bien S. Bautista, Ed Banaga, Annabelle Chavez, Nap Venturina, Teejay Tan, JR Velasco and Jay Jaucian.
Their works depict various aspects of Philippine daily life and culture, both traditional and modern. Similarities between Philippine and Turkish cultures were also highlighted in some of the photographs.
The exhibit venue, Edirne, known as Adrianople in the early days, was also the second capital of the Ottoman Empire after Bursa and before İstanbul (Constantinople). Before Edirne, the exhibit was in Büyükçekmece, a relatively affluent seaside district of İstanbul, on 17 to 19 October 2022.
The first four legs of the photo exhibit were held in the Beylikdüzü district of İstanbul (9 to 28 February 2022), Bursa (11 to 16 April 2022), Balıkesir (23 to 27 May 2022), and Çanakkale (22 July to 05 August 2022). All the exhibits were made possible through İstanbul PCG’s linkages with the local officials of the aforementioned cities who generously provided the venues for the event.
İstanbul PCG has been organizing the photo exhibit to introduce itself to the general public as a newly-established foreign consular mission. At the same time, the exhibit hopes to elicit wider interest and awareness of the Philippines among the residents of the 11 provinces under the Consulate General’s jurisdiction. END
